Inspiration

The Full Story (..Time Sensitive Summary)

With MLayne every bite is a celebration!  We aim to bring joy through our food creations.

The once secret Barbadian pepper sauce recipes emerged from a craving for unusual and sumptuous Barbados hot sauce options.  The flavours were made by pairing favourites, pineapple with hot peppers, dill with mustard  and a mysterious  amount of roasted garlic to red hot sauce.  Underpinned by the creole influence of the island's African, British and Caribbean heritage.  Made with fresh ingredients and free of preservatives.

In November  2021, as a result of the challenges surrounding the COVID pandemic,  MLayne pepper sauces became public.   The first 'sale' of MLayne sauce was an unlabeled bottle.  .. ' I was at the print shop  trying to match the gold colour scheme of the labels,  when a customer came over and inquired about the attractive colour of  Popping Pineapple.   I explained they were not yet available for sale but the customer insisted and  purchased the bottle.'  Even with this spark,   the journey which would not have been easy, was plagued in the beginning with notable discouragement as a  perceived hobby or arts and crafts endeavor not worth serious pursuit.  However with a gentle nudge from a  single friend and the silent vote of mum (..at least that's how I interpreted the silence..), doing something that brings joy has kept MLayne sauces going.  The satisfaction of our vendors who " instantly got it" and the happiness and excitement of consumers, define our mission to support artists and creative products.

The journey was further met with the support of  the late John Jackson in 2023,  the British businessman  and  owner of SOLO Trading in Barbados, carried MLayne sauces in the SOLO store in 2022  and  later provided the opportunity to refurbish their small hot sauce facility, which had not been used in almost 10 years.  A pivotal moment providing the foundation to go on and make MLayne sauces more available, with this and his sound mentorship, I am so grateful (Thank you John).
